Carte-de-visite by Allan Hughan, c 1880
104 x 64 mm
The most noteworthy aspect of this studio composition is the fact
that Hughan has chosen to include Fijian weapons as props. He would
of course have been fully cogniscent of the fact that the European
market for which his photographs were intended could not discern the
difference between one cannibal weapon and another. At times Hughan's
assemblages border on pure fantasy.
Very good condition. |
